A primeira Harley-Davidson
Dois visionários chamados Arthur Davidson e William S. Harley adaptaram um antigo motor num quadro de bicicleta. Essa idéia resultou no início da marca mais cultuada de todos os tempos: a Harley Davidson. Entretanto, a primeira motocicleta H.D apareceu em 1904. A Silent Grey Fellow tinha motor monocilíndrico de 494 cm³ e desenvolvia 6,5 cv de potência máxima. Sua produção durou até 1912. Já o primeiro motor V-Twin da Harley Davidson apareceu em 1909.

Two visionaries named Arthur Davidson and William S. Harley adapted an old engine in a bike frame. This idea resulted in the beginning of the brand most celebrated of all time: a Harley Davidson. However, the first HD motorcycle appeared in 1904. The Silent Grey Fellow had single cylinder 494 cc and developed 6.5 horsepower maximum. Its production lasted until 1912. Already the first V-Twin Harley Davidson appeared in 1909.

1914 Indian 998 cm³
A Indian Motorcycles Manufacturing Company foi fundada em 1901. Antes da primeira guerra mundial, a marca era considerada o maior fabricante de motos do mundo. A grande contribuição da Indian surgiu em 1914, com o modelo Indian 998 cm³ – nome alusivo à capacidade do motor aplicado. Foi a primeira motocicleta da história com partida elétrica e suspensão traseira com sistemas de braços oscilantes. Para muitos à época, era vista como a moto mais confiável de todos os tempos.

The Indian Motorcycles Manufacturing Company was founded in 1901. Before the first world war, the brand was considered the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. The great contribution of the Indian came in 1914 with the Indian model 998 cc – the name refers to the ability of the engine used. It was the first motorcycle with electric start of the story and rear suspension systems with swing arms. For many at the time, was seen as the most reliable motorcycle of all time.
A primeira motocicleta com motor quatro cilindros em linha
Especializada na produção de armamentos bélicos, a indústria belga FN (Fabrique Nationale de Herstal) criou o primeiro motor de quatro cilindros em linha para motos, em 1905. Primeiramente com 365 cm³, passou para 410 cm³ no ano de 1906 e 498 cm³, em 1910. Outra curiosidade era a ausência de suspensão na traseira. No ano seguinte (1911), a moto da FN evoluiu ao receber um câmbio de duas marchas e embreagem.

Triumph Thunderbird 650

Criada para ser um meio de transporte barato e acessível, a Vespa fez enorme sucesso pela sua simplicidade, robustez, elegância e, acima de tudo, baixo custo. E, depois que Gregory Peck levou Audrey Hepburn para dar uma volta em Roma no filme “A Princesa e o Plebeu”, o pequeno scooter ganhou notoriedade mundial. Fabricada até hoje, a Vespa é Cult.

Yamaha RD50, a primeira moto fabricada no Brasil
A produção da Yamaha RD 50 começou em 1974, na cidade de Guarulhos (SP). Com motor de dois tempos e 50 cc, atingia a velocidade máxima de 80 km/h. A primeira moto fabricada no Brasil tinha como novidade o sistema de admissão diretamente no cilindro. O conjunto de suspensão dianteiro era composto de garfo telescópico com molas externas e, na traseira, braço oscilante com duplo amortecimento. Ambos os sistemas de freios (na dianteira e traseira) eram a tambor.

A Honda GL 1800 Gold Wing traz, além do motor de 1.832 cm³, sistema de áudio, freios ABS, controle de velocidade, marcha à ré e três compartimentos para bagagens com abertura por controle remoto. Em 2007, a motocicleta ganhou também o air bag – o primeiro para motocicletas. O equipamento funciona por meio de quatro sensores que fazem uma leitura do impacto frontal e acionam a bolsa inflável para amortecer e reduzir o impacto do piloto.

Com desempenho de moto de competição, essa Suzuki “civil” estreou no mercado, em 1985. Seu motor de quatro cilindros em linha, DOHC (duplo comando de válvulas no cabeçote) e 16 válvulas desenvolvia 106 hp de potência máxima a 10.500 rpm e 6,52 kgfm a 8.000 rpm de torque máximo. A GSX 750 utilizava o SACS (Suzuki Advanced Colling System), um sistema que refrigerava os cilindros e pistões com o próprio óleo do motor. Desenvolvido pelo engenheiro Etsuo Yokouchi, foi amplamente empregado pela marca de 1985 a 1992 e ditou tendências no segmento de esportivas: foi uma das primeiras motos de rua projetada para ser a mais rápida nas pistas.
